At the end of September 1949, Tao Zhiyue, then the commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang’s Xinjiang garrison, energized the uprising, and Xinjiang was peacefully liberated. In early October, the first corps commander Wang Zhen led the 2nd Army and the 6th Army into Xinjiang, and carried out an attack on the uprising troops. After being reorganized, the 5th Army of the Ace KMT Cavalry from the original Ma Bufang was reorganized into the 7th Cavalry Division. In March 1950, 2511 officers and soldiers of the 17 companies of the unit suddenly launched an armed rebellion in Dihua, and they echoed with a local bandit leader, Wu Siman, in Xinjiang.
Us is full of Hami is the largest bandit in the area. He started in the Sheng Shicai period. At first, there were only dozens of guns. Later, his power continued to expand. When the People’s Liberation Army entered Xinjiang, Usman had more than 3,000 soldiers, and he often robbed cars and merchants on the Lanxin Highway in Qijiaojing, Taranti and Baishitou. In addition, Usman often condoned his subordinates to looting the herdsmen in Hami area, so the people were very angry.
After the People’s Liberation Army entered Xinjiang, the 16th Division of the 6th Army quickly moved into the area of Hami, but Usman fled. A winter pasture about 100 miles northeast of Qitai. Knowing that the 7th Cavalry Division was rebelling in Dihua, Usman was ecstatic, and immediately led his troops to Hami in an attempt to retake Hami. In order to gain momentum, he joined forces with the restoring Hami commissioner and Kuomintang agent Yao Le Bosi to launch a surprise attack on the Yiwu city in the northeast of Hami . At that time, there were more than 700 rebels attacking Yiwu City, while the defending army only had one company in the 46th regiment of the 16th division. The power gap between the enemy and the enemy was very large.
Because of the absolute superiority of troops, the rebels were extremely arrogant and clamored for”taking Yiwu in three days.” However, the 2nd company defending the city, under the command of Deputy Battalion Commander Hu Qingshan, fought extremely tenaciously, repelling dozens of enemy attacks, holding Yiwu for more than 40 days, and annihilating the bandits with the assistance of reinforcements. After the war, the second company was awarded the honorary title of”second steel company”, and Hu Qingshan was awarded the honorary title of”special battle hero”.
After the defeat of the attack on Yiwu, Us Fully led the troops to retreat to the nest, the superior handed over the task of completely eliminating the bandits to the 16th division. The deputy commander Luo Shaowei took the initiative to invite Ying at the mobilization meeting. And decided to go to the front line in person to find fighters and annihilate the rebels. Luo Shaowei is a native of Hanyin, Shaanxi. He was born in 1918. His parents died when he was very young. At the age of 8, he started herding cattle and sheep for the landlord’s family. He went out early and returned late but never had a full meal. When he was 14 years old, he couldn’t stand it anymore, so he left the landlord’s house and entered the city, hoping to find another job to make a living.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Luo Shaowei entered the city, he was arrested by the national army. He was assigned to Yang Hucheng’s second brigade, four regiment, one battalion, three companies and three platoons. In 1935, Luo Shaowei left Yang Hucheng’s army and joined the South Shaanxi Anti-Japanese First Army led by our party. Later, this army was reorganized into the Red 15th Army Guard Corps. Soon after the Anti-Japanese War broke out, Luo Shaowei entered the Eighth Route Army. In the autumn of 1940, he repeatedly attacked the Japanese stronghold in Hancun, Cao County, Shandong Province, and wiped out 107 enemy troops. This battle was the first Southwestern Shandong The example of annihilating the Japanese stronghold was praised by the superiors.
In August 1946, Luo Shaowei, who had been promoted to head of the regiment, was ordered to lead his troops back to the north of Wang Zhen’s south detachment Yan’an, the enemy army relies on the Wudinghe natural danger to block our army. Luo Shaowei used the method of slamming east and west to cross the Wuding River skillfully, and suddenly appeared behind the enemy, and wiped out more than 800 enemies in the first battle, clearing the obstacles for the southward detachment to return north. After receiving the report, Wang Zhen happily said:”With such a troop, I can fight back and forth again.”
After the Liberation War broke out, Luo Shaowei led his troops to fight the enemy in the northwest area. He successively participated in the battles of Central Shaanxi, the Battle of Fumei, and the Liberation of Lanzhou, accumulating military exploits. Promoted to deputy commander of the 16th Division. After receiving the task of destroying the Wusiman rebels this time, Luo Shaowei took the initiative to ask for command at the front. On March 26, 1950, Luo Shaowei took his staff and guards in a jeep to Ludun, more than 100 miles away from Hami, where the 2nd Battalion and 5th Company of the 46th Division of the 16th Division were stationed here.
After checking the combat readiness of the 5th company, Deputy Commander Luo Shaowei got up in the early morning of April 1 and went to our army station in Qijiaojing. When the car drove to a mountain more than 20 kilometers away from Qijiaojing, Suddenly, he was attacked by more than 40 people from the Usman band, and the car was shot and stalled. Deputy Commander Luo directed the battle while leading everyone forward, preparing to break a bloody path from the encirclement of the rebels. However, the power gap between the enemy and the enemy was too great, and the breakthrough ultimately failed. In addition to the driver being captured, deputy commander Luo Shaowei and confidential secretary Li Yuqing, staff officer Ma Yuzhang, radio operator Song Wancheng, and security officer Yang Zhuangyuan all died heroically.
The gangster is very cruel, and there is no body of Deputy Commander Luo Let it go. When the bad news came, Wang Zhen was very angry. He personally presided over the bandit suppression meeting, and said:”The Usman Bandit Group has no possibility to fight for it. They must use cannons to reason, and use bayonets to teach them!” Then Wang Zhen ordered Luo Yuanfa. The 6th Army dispatched the 16th Division and the 17th Division, riding in hundreds of vehicles, and with 41 tanks and an aircraft, launched a fierce attack on the Usman Band.
After fighting at Hongliu Gorge, Beita Mountain and Baiyanggou, the main force of the Wusiman band was wiped out by our army. Wusiman fled to Qinghai alone, and was eventually killed by the Gansu Third Army Cavalry Regiment. Kong Qingyun and Liu Hualin worked together to catch them alive. Usman was shot at a public trial shortly afterwards, ending his sinful life.
